Department Summary
The Central Business Service Office (CBSO), a shared service office, provides service within the Office of the Provost portfolio. The specific services are in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Payroll, Purchasing, Contracting, Travel, and Accounts Payable.
The mission of the shared services group is to provide consistency through centralized services, offering our expertise in processing a wide variety of financial and human resources transactions and functions including acting as a liaison to the Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, and University Human Resources, and Payroll Administration. We are committed to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with our customers to ensure their needs are fulfilled to the highest standard.
The CBSO unit provides shared services for several organizations within the OtP portfolio including:
- College of Design
- School of Journalism & Communication
- College of Education
- Clark Honors College
The units supported by CBSO constitute a large business enterprise consisting of more than 2,500 employees and a total budget of more than $100 million in budgeted operations funds. There are additional operations funds such as foundation funds, research funding, designated operations, and other non-general funds, an estimated $15M before foundation funds. The CBSO also works with multiple employee category types funded from various sources such as sponsored, gift, and foundation funds and research, outreach, and designated ops org funds. The CBSO also handles these fund transitions in addition to budgeted operations funds.

Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to assist travelers with travel-related questions and in navigating the Concur travel system. This includes reviewing and approval of travel requests and expense reports, acting as a travel processor for final approvals on some types of travel, and staying on top of updates to the UO travel policy. All travel expenses are verified by identifying proper business purposes and allowances per the IRS Accountable Plan and UO travel policy.
In addition to travel, this position assists with the reconciliations and is the point contact in the CBSO for all UO Forensic team matters which includes team travel, competition judge contracting, and other needs as determined by the Forensic team Director.
This position makes decisions related to the UO travel policy, the IRS Accountable Plan, and the UO contracting policy. Non-routine or unusual decisions will be made in consultation with the Senior Director or Assistant Director of the CBSO and the UO travel office as required. The nature of this position requires the ability to communicate effectively via written and spoken word with mostly internal contacts including faculty, staff, and administrators.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Business Operations in the CBSO.
Minimum Requirements
- 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of Accounting courses AND
- An Associates Degree in Accounting;
OR - One year of experience that includes entering, compiling, and/or reporting financial information;
OR - An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. All courses must be from accredited colleges, universities, or private vocational schools.
Professional Competencies
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills to a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize a variety of deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Banner or a similar higher education information system.
- Experience using Concur for travel.
- Experience with the University of Oregon travel policy.
